Vauxhall and Nine Elms: a changing world
An illustrated history for primary school chidlren

You might think B3 Creative, Damien Hirst and the USA Embassy don’t have all that much in common (though we do quite like the way the artist and a major US institution have linked up in Leicester Square).
But what B3 Creative and these two do have in common, is that we are all involved with the redevelopment of one of central London’s most under-invested areas: Vauxhall and Nine Elms.
We have teamed up with Lambeth Council to create Vauxhall and Nine Elms: Past, Present and Future. This children’s history book is teeming with facts and stunning illustrations by Martin Hargreaves. It takes its readers from pre-historic Vauxhall, where hunter-gatherers lived on the banks of the Thames, to modern-day Nine Elms.
This part of London has long been synonymous with heavy traffic, industrial production and lack of opportunities. It was if the modernisation the rest of the capital enjoyed had passed Nine Elms by.
But change is coming. Nine Elms and Vauxhall are set to become a vibrant hub of activity in the centre of London
Over the next few years, there will be extensive redevelopment in Vauxhall and Nine Elms. Beautiful, sustainable towers like St George’s Wharf, The Corniche and Merano, and Riverlight are cropping up along the riverside to provide homes for thousands of new residents.
The American Embassy is moving to Nine Elms – a futuristic, glass, cube-shaped building will provide office space for American diplomats. And Damien Hirst is opening a gallery in the redeveloped area, showcasing some of his world-famous art!
It’s not just new buildings, either. The disused Battersea Power Station is being renovated and restored, too. It will have impressive apartments but there will also be shops, restaurants, cinemas, and community space!
A new life is being given to areas that have long been neglected – both the buildings, and lots of natural outdoor spaces, too.
It’s important that the children in this evolving community know that they are every bit a part of it! That’s why our book Vauxhall and Nine Elms: Past, Present and Future is being given out to all Lambeth’s pupils this term.
Soon, you will be able to buy a copy of the book by going to lovevaux.com but for now, you can read more about some of the incredible changes occurring, by following the link below!!
